
The Kazakhstan National League season rolls on, and Astana will close out the calendar year with a home doubleheader against Almaty Legion. The games will be played on 22 and 23 December, both tipping off at 20:00, at the Saryarka Velodrome.
Astana come into the series unbeaten, while Almaty Legion currently sit second in the standings, having recorded five losses so far this season.
The two teams know each other well. They’ve met 30 times, with Astana coming out on top in 27 of those games. Their most recent meetings were in Almaty on 8 and 9 November, where the capital side again had the upper hand — the second game ending in a convincing 106–73 win. Astana’s biggest victory over Legion dates back to 26 March 2015, when they won 128–59.
For Astana, Askar Maidyekin has been the team’s main offensive force, averaging 19.5 points per game, while also leading in rebounds with 7.5 per game. E.J. Day continues to run the offence, posting 6.5 assists per game, along with 4 steals, and remaining perfect from the free-throw line this season.
Almaty Legion are led in scoring by import Elijah Hardy, who averages 14 points per game. Nikita Timofeyev plays a key all-around role for the visitors, leading the team in both rebounds (8 per game) and assists (2.5 per game).
Both games will take place at the Saryarka Velodrome, with tip-off set for 20:00 on 22 and 23 December, as Astana look to finish the year on a strong note in front of their home crowd.
