Astana claim home wins over Tobol

Basketball Club Astana enjoyed a successful home series in the Kazakhstan National League, defeating Tobol of Kostanay in both games — 85:65 on 15 December and 108:67 on 16 December.

The opening game began on even terms, with both sides trading baskets. After the first quarter, the score was tied at 22:22, capped off by a buzzer-beating shot from Alexander Orazbekov to level the game. From the second quarter onwards, Astana gradually took control, tightening up defensively and moving the ball more effectively on offence. The decisive stretch came in the third quarter, which the hosts won 21:10, allowing them to comfortably see out the game.

Askar Maidyekin led the way with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Robert Pan added 11 points and 9 rebounds, while Alexander Orazbekov finished with 11 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Rustam Murzagaliyev also made an impact, recording 10 points and 6 rebounds.

The second game was far more one-sided. From the opening minutes, Astana set a high tempo and effectively settled the outcome before halftime, winning the first two quarters by a combined 62:28. Strong shooting and aggressive defence allowed the hosts to build a commanding lead early.

After the break, Astana continued to dominate and extended the gap further. In the final quarter, the coaching staff rotated the lineup freely, giving all players meaningful minutes on the court.

The top scorer in the second game was Amirali Suleimanov, who posted 18 points, along with 5 assists and 4 rebounds. Askar Maidyekin followed with 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Alexander Orazbekov once again delivered a well-rounded performance with 15 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds.

Strong contributions also came from Rustam Murzagaliyev (15 points, 5 assists), Valery Simonov (12 points, 5 rebounds), and Adas Juškevičius, who finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The two home wins allow Astana to strengthen its position in the National League standings and continue its solid run this season.
