The agreement was signed by Astana’s General Director Samson Arakelyan and the head of Sport+, Olzhas Abraev. As part of the collaboration, both parties have committed to strengthening the sport’s media presence — with a particular focus on Astana-Zhastar, the club’s youth team, which is preparing for a historic debut in the VTB United Youth League.
Samson Arakelyan, General Director of BC Astana:
“We’re heading into what promises to be a really exciting season. Our youth team is about to make its debut in the VTB United Youth League, representing Kazakhstan on that stage for the first time. Meanwhile, the senior team will compete in both the National League and the WASL, where we’ll be flying the flag internationally.
To reach the Intercontinental Cup, we’ll need to move through the WASL Super League, and if we reach the finals, qualify for the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. That means there’s a huge amount of new information for fans this season — new tournaments, new names, and new milestones — so it’s incredibly important for us to have a strong media partner on this journey.
Sport+ is the perfect match for us. We share the same vision: we want to show more than just scores and results — we want to highlight the work our youth are putting in, tell real stories, introduce fresh talent, and offer meaningful analysis. Sport+ is ready to help us do all of that, and I’m genuinely excited about what we’ll be able to build together.”
Olzhas Abraev, General Director of Sport+:
“Basketball is one of the most dynamic and accessible sports in the world — and people love it here in Kazakhstan as well. Astana is the clear leader in the local scene, with its own academy, infrastructure, and a strong development strategy, especially when it comes to investing in young talent. That aligns perfectly with the direction we’re taking as a media group.
I’m confident that together we can shine a light on emerging players, increase the visibility of basketball across the country, and use the sport as a powerful platform to promote healthy, active lifestyles.”
The partnership marks an important step in bringing Kazakhstani basketball to a wider audience — both on and off the court.
