Abu Dhabi International Basketball Championship tips off on September 29 with participation of 8 clubs

The capital of UAE, Abu Dhabi, will host the second edition of  Abu Dhabi International Basketball Championship 2025 at Al Jazira Club’s indoor sports hall, running from September 29 to October 5, under the patronage of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, supervised by the UAE Basketball Federation, and organized by Al Wahda Club in cooperation with Global Active Sports.

The championship will feature a strong lineup of local, regional, and international clubs, with confirmed participation from: Al Wahda, Al Dhafra, and league champion Sharjah (UAE), Al Riyadi and Champville (Lebanon), TNT – runners-up of the Philippine BasketballAssociation, league champions Astana (Kazakhstan), and Al Qurain (Kuwait).

The games serve as a key preparation stage for participating teams as they gear up for the new season, whether for domestic competitions or regional qualifiers leading to continental championships. It provides an ideal opportunity for clubs to test themselves against diverse basketball styles and professional players.

In this context, Abdullah Salem Al Junaibi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, confirmed that preparations are well underway to host a distinguished edition of the championship. He emphasized that the tournament is a valuable opportunity for clubs to prepare seriously for the upcoming season.

Al Junaibi stated: “We welcome all the teams to Abu Dhabi to take part in this international championship. Al Wahda Club has always been accustomed to organizing major tournaments that include strong and historic clubs across the Arab world. This event also represents an opportunity to strengthen sporting relations with participating clubs from Lebanon, Kuwait, the Philippines, and Kazakhstan.”

According to the tournament format, the eight teams will be divided into two groups. Group A will include Al Riyadi Beirut, TNT Tropang 5G, Sharjah, and Al Dhafra, while Group B will feature Al Wahda, Astana, Champville, and Al Qurain. Each team will play three matches in the group stage, with the top two from each group advancing to the semifinals, leading to the final match that will determine the champion of the second edition.

Tickets will be available to fans through Ticketmaster, and the games will be broadcast live on Abu Dhabi Sports Channel.

Once again, this hosting confirms Abu Dhabi’s position as a leading destination for organizing international sporting events, thanks to the strong support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the advanced infrastructure that enables the city to attract the world’s most prominent sports competitions.
