Azamat Kabdylkarimov brings years of experience in Kazakhstani basketball to his new role. He began his professional career in 2007 as team manager for Astana Tigers. He later held leadership positions with the Mangystau Regional Basketball Federation and Caspiy Basketball Club. From 2011, he worked as Sporting Director of Astana Tigers, guiding the men’s team to two national Higher League championships and the women’s team to four titles.
Since 2023, he has served as Sporting Director of the SANA sports Family Sports Centre.
From 2017 to 2023, Kabdylkarimov headed the Mass Basketball Department at the National Basketball Federation of Kazakhstan and managed the country’s women’s national teams. Between 2021 and 2024, he also oversaw the Dai Myach School Basketball League.
He is currently Secretary General of the Astana City Basketball Federation and leads several major grassroots and youth basketball projects, including the Amateur Basketball League (ABL), Youth Basketball League (MBL), Astana Open, and Jr. NBA Kazakhstan U14.
In addition to his administrative work, Azamat Kabdylkarimov has a strong background as both a player and a coach. He is a Master of Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan in basketball and a former Astana Tigers player (2001–2007), with three national championships to his name. From 2018 to 2020, he served as head coach of Kazakhstan’s women’s 3x3 national team, leading them to a silver medal at the 2019 Asia Cup in China.
