Aktobe vs. Astana: Game one
This wasn’t just a game—it was a true thriller. Emotions surged as quickly as the number of subscribers to our Telegram channel, where, by the way, we’re currently holding a giveaway for shirts and a game jersey. But let’s get back to the game.
In the first quarter, «Aktobe» came out strong, opening with a 10-1 run. «Astana» was forced to call an early timeout. However, the short break didn’t change much; the home team continued to extend their lead, executing their offensive plays seamlessly while we struggled to organise our attack. The absence of key playmakers Orazbekov and Sarsengaliyev was evident. Nonetheless, by the end of the quarter, Mikhail Lonshakov’s team managed to make some adjustments, slightly improving the scoreboard — 26:15.
The second quarter could be aptly titled “Medovsky vs. Everyone.” His three consecutive three-pointers reignited hope and cut the deficit to just 8 points. Still, «Aktobe» kept up the pressure, and only Simonov’s long-range shot at the end kept the halftime score more manageable — 46:37.
Midway through the third quarter, «Astana» took the lead for the first time — 50:51. However, it was short-lived, as «Aktobe» responded with a series of successful long-range shots, reclaiming their advantage. The quarter ended with a score of 63:59.
At the start of the fourth quarter, «Astana,» led by Simonov and Suleimenov, managed to seize the momentum. Yet the hosts were far from giving up, quickly retaking the lead. The game turned into a back-and-forth battle, growing increasingly intense as it approached the final moments. The spotlight turned to Sardal Abashidze, whose crucial block on defence and pivotal points on offence made the difference. «Aktobe» called a timeout with a 3-point deficit, but a subsequent steal by Mukhammedali Sairanov and his impressive dunk sealed the game. «Astana» not only secured the win but also showed their resilience. The final score was 76:81.
Tomorrow, we’ll face «Aktobe» again as part of this away series. Will the hosts be able to claim revenge, or will «Astana» emerge victorious once more? We’ll find out tomorrow. The match starts at 19:00, with a live broadcast on our website.
