«Astana» Performed in the West Asia Super League
«Astana» has completed its performance in the Final Eight of the West Asia Super League.
The team, led by Fotios Takianos, began the group stage with a match against «Al Riyadi» from Beirut. The opponent proved to be stronger, and the match ended with a score of 69:101, not in favor of «Astana.»
In the second match, «Astana» faced «Al Manama» from Bahrain. The game was competative, and the Kazakh team played three overtimes for the first time this season, ultimately winning with a score of 122:117. The hero of the match was Markell Johnson, who scored 42 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and made 11 assists.
Unfortunately, in the decisive match against «Sagesse,» «Astana» lost with a score of 89:103 and did not advance to the tournament's semifinals, finishing third in the group. However, it's worth noting the standout performance of Shakur Juston, who scored 25 points and performed 16 rebounds.
At the end of the group stage, Markell Johnson ranked among the top three scorers of the tournament, averaging 25.7 points per game, behind only Clint Chapman from «Kazma» (34.0) and Joseph Young from «Kuwait» (26.7). Johnson also ranked among the best in assists (6.7), second only to Ahmed AlBalushi from «Kazma» (7.3).
