«Astana» has finished the group stage of the West Asian Super League Finals in first place, winning all three matches.
In the final round, the Kazakhstan team defeated «Kuwait» — the competition's favorites who occupied the first place in the published FIBA preliminary power ranking of the Finals Eight.
The competition in the first quarter was intense and equal, but in the second period, «Astana» managed to gain a good advantage and went into halftime with an 11-point lead. In the third period, the Kazakhstani players struggled to score while the opponent closed the gap. However, «Astana» regained the initiative and won the quarter. In the final stretch, both teams scored equal points, and our basketball players won the match with a score of 85:72.
The best player of the game was Kazakhstani center Dmitry Gavrilov, who scored 19 points and made 5 rebounds. Maxim Marchuk (7 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Carvel Anderson (24 points) also stood out.
Therefore, «Astana» ended the 12-match winning streak of «Kuwait» and finished the group stage taking first place.
Now Oleg Kiselyov's team will play in the semifinals against the team that takes second place in Group A, either «Beirut» or «Al-Manama,» who will play against each other tonight.
