This evening Astana hosts CSKA Moscow, a club with a long history.

The Moscow team traces its history back to 1923, when it was formed under the name OPPV (Experimental and Demonstrative Sports Ground of Vsevobuch), created on the basis of OLLS (Society of Skiing Fans). The team got its current name in 1960. Prior to that, the club was called both CDKA (Central House of the Red Army) and CSK MO (Central Sports Club of the Ministry of Defense).

In less than a hundred years, CSKA has become the most titled basketball club in Russia and one of the most titled clubs in Europe. The army team are 24-time champions of the USSR, 27-time champions of Russia. The title of VTB United League champions was won by CSKA ten times.

On the international arena, the Moscow club won the Euroleague four times, and the same number of times became the owner of the European Champions Cup.

It is worth noting that CSKA has never lost this season.

“CSKA have made a good move, they are the sole leaders of the League at the moment. We, in turn, went on a short pause, connected with the participation of the Kazakhstan national team in the World Cup qualification. During this time, we have had changes in the composition: the club signed defenders Markell Johnson and Kwame Won. We are looking forward to the game with the long-term leader of the League and, I think, the match will show the correctness of our actions to strengthen our game,” commented the head coach of Astana Oleg Kiselev.

“It's always nice to play against strong opponents, it gives us experience. CSKA is now in first place in the VTB United League table, they have a very good squad and coach. We are preparing, dismantling the opponent. We will play in the updated line-up, with two newcomers. I hope we will show high-quality basketball and repulse the opponent. We are pleased when a full hall of fans is recruited. When they scream, cheer for us and give us energy. I hope it will be so this time!” said the captain of the capital team Rustam Murzagaliyev.

The match will take place on November 18 at the Saryarka cycle track, starting at 19:30.

Astana lost to CSKA Moscow in the match of the VTB United League, with the final score being 64:101 in favor of the army team.

This game was the debut for the newcomers of the capital club — Markell Johnson and Kwame Won. Markell became one of the game's heroes, scoring 18 points and giving 6 assists. Also, Michael Myers scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds.

From CSKA, it's worth noting Nikola Milutinov (15 points, 10 rebounds) and Dejan Davidovac (14 points, 5 rebounds).

In addition, Emil Rajkovic, who led Astana in 2018-2021, returned to the cycle track, but this time as the opposing team's head coach.

You have a good coach, this is the base club of the national team, and with quality imports, the team can become more competitive,» the ex-coach of the Kazakh club said at the post-match press conference.

Astana will play the next match in the VTB United League on the road on November 23 against Pari Nizhny Novgorod. And the next home game will take place on December 13 against Avtodor.
