James Florence was born May 31, 1988, in Marietta, Georgia, USA. He is an American professional basketball player who plays as a point guard.

James's basketball career began in 2006 with playing for the «Mercer Bears» team at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, USA. After graduating from college, James took part in the 2010 NBA dart, after which he remained a free agent, and in the offseason he managed to play for «Philadelphia 76ers». Then he moved to Europe, where his first professional club became the Serbian «KK Igokea», with whom Florence won the regular season and finalized in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and also took part in the Adriatic League. In the 2011/2012 season, he moved to the Ukrainian club «Krivbass» from the city of Krivoy Rog, then playing in the Ukrainian Super League, where he had been playing until January 2013. For the remainder of the season, James defended the colors of the Hungarian club «Szolnoki Olajbanyasz» in Division A of the National Championship and became a finalist in both the National Tournament and the Hungarian Cup, and also played in the Adriatic League. The following season, he played in the German Bundesliga, playing for the «Phantoms Braunschweig» team. In the fall of 2014, James signed a contract with the Croatian Zadar, with which he reached the final of the Croatian Cup and took part in the All-Star Championship of the Country, but had not played until the end of the season and in March 2015 he moved to Turkey, where he had spent several months in as part of the local «TED Kolejliler Ankara» team. In July 2015, he signed a one-year contract with the French team “Paris Levalo”, however, already in October of that year, Florence returned to Croatia, but already in the status of a player of the titled “Cibona”, for which he played out before the end of the season. James spent the 2016/2017 season in a new place — in Poland, signing a one-year contract with the club “Stelmet Zielona Góra”, with which he became the champion of the country, became the MVP of the final, and also won the Polish Cup. In the summer of 2017, he extended the contract with «Stelmet Zielona Góra» for another season, and a year later he moved to another Polish club «Arka Gdynia», in whose team he twice made it to the finals of the Polish Cup.

Before joining «Astana», James managed to play in the Lebanese League for the «Champville SC» team.
