During two days on Saryarka the republican cycle track, the games for the title of the best club in the country were held.
“Astana” basketball club had a flawless victory and got the title of champion of Kazakhstan.
In the final game against the team «Barsy Atyrau» metropolitan Gullivers won with a score of 94:78.
Robert Lowry became the best player of the match, scoring 25 points. Dmitry Gavrilov got 18 points, Ian Miller-17 points and Maxim Marchuk-13 points.
«Barsy Atyrau» won the second place; the team «Caspiy» from Aktau got the bronze medals respectively.
Also at the end of the championship, according to tradition, five best players of the championship of Kazakhstan were chosen:
The best guard — Traven Park (Barsy Atyrau)
The best point guard — Azim Yagodkin (Caspian, Aktau)
Best small forward — Rustam Ergali (Astana)
The best power forward — Anton Ponomarev (Astana)
The best centre — Mikhail Evstigneev (Barty Atyrau)
The championship is held under the auspices of the «90th Anniversary of Basketball in Kazakhstan». In connection with this event by the Order of the President of the National Basketball Federation the «Jubilee Medal» was issued to award the persons who greatly contributed to the development of basketball in our country.
Distinguishably the general manager of PBC “Astana”, Olympic champion, Valery Alekseevich Tikhonenko, received the first medal.
Summarising the results of this season, we can say that for «Astana» it turned out to be quite good. The tasks that were put before the team and the coaching staff were fulfilled. The team became the winner of the Kazakhstan Cup 2017, won the gold medals in the Championship of the RK, and also entered the playoffs of VTB United League.
Head coach of «Astana» Ilias Papatheodorou summed up the results of the championship: - This was a tough game, I think we deserved this victory in the championship; we played aggressively and dominated the entire championship. I congratulate my players in the first place because they did their job very well. For us, this is a wonderful ending of the season; we managed to realise all the tasks that we set. Now we will rest for a couple of days, have a celebration, and then we will start preparing for the playoff game against CSKA.
