«Astana» begins to defend  Kazakhstan Champion title 

The Presidential Basketball Club “Astana” will hold the first series of away games in the new season of the National League against the Aktau “Caspiy”.

“Caspiy” — is a Kazakhstan professional basketball club from the city of Aktau, founded in 2008.

Achievements:

• Bronze medalist of the Championship of Kazakhstan: 2011/2012, 2012/2013, 2013/2014, 2014/2015, 2016/2017
• Bronze medalist of the Kazakhstan Cup: 2012, 2013, 2017

The Kazakhstan specialist, Yevgeniy Isakov, has been working in the coaching staff of the Aktau team for four seasons now, three of which he works as a head coach. For the second season in a row, the main part of “Caspiy” is their home-grown youth players. In the offseason, the two American imports had left the team, Sean George and CJ Carter, who were the main driving force of the team. At the same time, a Russian center, Denis Orlenko, extended his contract with the team.

The history of the games: During their entire game history in the National League and the Cup of Kazakhstan, “Astana” has met with “Caspian” 57 times, only in three of which the Aktau players managed to beat the “yellow-turquoise”. In the 2014/2015 season, due to the tough schedule, the Astana farm team went to Aktau, which then lost twice to “Caspiy”. But in the season 2015/2016, the Aktau players managed to beat the main roster of “Astana”.

Tournament standings: for “Astana” these will be the first games in the National League, and “Caspiy” has already lost two games to “Tobol”.

Interesting Facts:

• “Caspiy” won all three games against “Astana”, when their coaching staff was led by Mikhail Karpenko, who later headed the coaching staff of the capital’s team.
• The players of “Astana”, Robert Pan and Vadim Shcherbak, are former players of the Aktau club.

“Astana” again defends the league title this season, and in the first games against “Caspiy” our team is a clear favorite.

The matches will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday on October 15 and 16 in Aktau in the arena of the Batyr Sports Complex.
